Why Manchester United vs Wolves has been moved to an earlier kick-off

Manchester United kick-off against Wolves tonight at the earlier time of 5:30 pm.

Monday Night Football, traditionally headed by Dave Jones, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, usually gets underway at 7pm as they build up to the televised match before kick-off.

Traditionally, midweek Premier League matches often commence no earlier than 7:45pm, but the Reds match against Bruno Lage's side is different.

United featured last Monday in the disappointing display against Newcastle as they earned a share of the spoils at St James' Park thanks to second-half substitute, Edinson Cavani.

With New Year's Eve and Day falling on the weekend it has pushed the January Bank Holiday Monday to the third but that isn't the reason for the earlier kick-off.

However, there is one reason why the broadcast has been pushed forward.

That is because Sky Sports wanted to avoid a clash between their broadcasting of the Premier League clash and the PDC World Darts Championship final between Peter Wright and Michael Smith.

The annual tournament held at the Alexandra Palace is a regular fixture in the sporting calendar and broadcasted by Sky UK, the British broadcaster.

However, it isn't a last-minute decision and due to the date falling on a Bank Holiday, they have been allowed to bring the match forward.

Wolves travel to the north west for their first competitive fixture since before Christmas after they suffered back-to-back postponements after a mixture of COVID-related cases and injuries denied them from fielding a side against Watford and Arsenal.

Ralf Rangnick's side were in a similar predicament at the beginning of December as they suffered an outbreak in light of their 1-0 win over Norwich which led to a 16-day layoff for the Reds.

They returned to winning ways against Burnley last time out with a comprehensive 3-1 win.
