Aaron Wan-Bissaka's lack of attacking prowess has been cited as the main reason he is not in Gareth Southgate's England squad.
The Manchester United right-back was not selected in Southgate's 29-man squad for upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Iceland and Belgium, as well as a friendly versus Republic of Ireland.
Mason Greenwood was also left out, though United stars Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford were all called up.
Southgate admitted the full-back positions are full of strength, with Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier all preferred to Wan-Bissaka in the latest squad.
The 22-year-old has been solid for United recently but must wait for his international chance.
"It's an area of the pitch where we are blessed," Southgate said. "Reece and Trent have both played as wing-backs as well as full-backs. They are in outstanding form and we are probably stronger there than in any other position.
"Aaron is a very good defender, one against one he's probably as good as I have seen, but I have to look at the balance of the team and currently there are players ahead of him."
