Why Manchester United's move for former Liverpool FC star Philippe Coutinho is 'impossible'

The future of Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho continues to be a hot topic ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have continually been linked with the Brazilian who has struggled to settle at the Nou Camp.

The 26-year-old joined Barca in a dream transfer from Liverpool back in January 2019 as he became the club's all-time expensive player.

But it's been a tough year and a half for Coutinho in Spain and he could be set to leave when the window opens as he weighs up his options.

Coutinho, who featured against United last week in the Champions League, could fit in at Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans a major summer rebuild at the club.

However, the latest report from Spain suggests that is unlikely given his allegiances to fierce rivals Liverpool.

Spanish publication Sport suggest that Coutinho won't want to 'betray his former supporters' and he doesn't think United fans will 'forgive his Liverpool past.

Coutinho was booed during the Champions League game last week and that reception appears to have convinced him not to move to United in the summer.

The report indicates that Chelsea would be a possible destination for the playmaker in the event they are not banned from signing players.

They could look at him as a potential replacement for Eden Hazard if he heads to Real Madrid in the summer.
