Why Manchester United player Andreas Pereira was at Celtic vs Hearts

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira watched Celtic's 3-1 victory over Hearts in Glasgow yesterday and was photographed in the stands.

He was there to watch his close friend and United colleague Joel Pereira, who played in goal for the visitors. The goalkeeper completed a season-long loan to Hearts in the summer and was making his league debut for the Tynecastle club.

Joel Pereira couldn't prevent a win for Scottish champions Celtic, but he was heartily backed by Andreas, who revealed on his Instragram story he was there to "support my brother" and called the keeper "el gato" — which translates to "the cat".

The Brazilian had been on the bench for United for their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, but was an unused substitute, before travelling up to Glasgow on Sunday.

Joel, who spent last season on loan first at Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal and then Belgian club KV Kortrijk, will hope he can continue to pick up game time in Scotland. The 23-year-old is keen to impress out on loan and is under contract at United until summer 2021.

United signed him from Swiss side Neuchâtel Xamax in 2015, while Andreas — who is the same age — has been with United since 2011 and was previously in the PSV Eindhoven academy.

Andreas signed a new four-year deal with United in the summer and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that he will hand the former Valencia player plenty of game time in midfield, following Ander Herrera's departure.

"We believe in the boy," Solskjaer said. "We gave him a new contract.

"And he did well last season. He played against PSG away in that win, Southampton game; scored a goal, came on and played against Liverpool. So he's one I expect more from this season."
