Erling Haaland's highly publicised release clause could increase before it becomes active next summer.
The Norwegian hitman has attracted the attention of all the top clubs across the world with 62 goals in 62 games for Borussia Dortmund since signing for the club in January 2020 from RB Salzburg in a £15m deal.
But after signing, it was revealed that Haaland 's agent Mino Raiola had insisted upon a release clause in his contract that activates from the summer of 2022, worth €75m.
This put the top clubs on alert following his incredible showing in the famous black and yellow shirt, which included 10 goals during the Champions League competition last season despite exiting at the quarter-final stage.
However according to German outlet Sport1, that release clause isn't fixed at the €75m sum and could actually rise up to around €90m depending on certain performance objectives being met by the club and player.
That would see a bigger outlay than initially expected for anyone trying to sign him, although with the current market value believed to be much higher it would still be seen as a good deal for anyone who tries to sign him.
Manchester United are believed to be planning a deal for the 20-year-old striker already, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to be reunited with his former Molde player once Edinson Cavani's contract ends next summer.
Man City on the other hand may not be in the race at all depending on how the current Harry Kane saga goes.
Pep Guardiola is known to want a striker to round off his squad and the England skipper is the main man currently targeted. However if Tottenham continue to refuse to do business with City, then they could turn their attentions to a younger and cheaper alternative.
It seems that United or City, or whoever wants Haaland, will have to act quickly to get Haaland next summer but he could end up costing them a little more than many had bargained for.
