Why Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was in Turin last weekend

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has paid tribute to former teammate Andrea Barzagli as he played his final game for Juventus at the weekend.

Pogba was in Turin to attend a party in Barzagli's honour after sharing a dressing room with him at Juve for four seasons.

Barzagli, 38, is retiring after ending his 21-year career at Juventus following an eight-year spell in Turin. He played an hour as Juve drew with Atalanta on Sunday.

Pogba paid tribute to his former captain, posting on Instagram: "Great man and great footballer. And now? Surely you will be top whatever you do. You are an example for all players."

The United man shared images of the pair together in their Juventus days, where they won four consecutive Serie A titles as well as two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups.

Pogba has been linked with a return to Juventus, and Tuttosport report the Bianconeri are interested in the Frenchman who left for United for £89m in 2016.

Juve fans had thought Pogba's presence in Turin was connected to a possible transfer, but he simply made the trip to celebrate an old friend's retirement from the game.
