Why Manchester United midfielder Fred waited for Liverpool FC goalkeeper Alisson in the tunnel

Manchester United midfielder Fred waited in the tunnel for Brazil goalkeeper Alisson following Liverpool's 2-0 victory at Anfield.

Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah saw Jurgen Klopp's side take a step closer towards Premier League glory, while inflicting another blow on United's top-four hopes.

After the result, as Liverpool fans sung 'we're going to win the league', the Liverpool squad stayed on the field to celebrate as the United players quickly headed to the tunnel.

However, rather than immediately making his way to the away dressing room, United midfielder Fred waited in the tunnel for the Liverpool players so he could greet opposing goalkeeper Alisson.

Liverpool's Inside Anfield tunnel cam showed the midfielder briefly speaking to the keeper, but the footage cuts away before the purpose of the chat is revealed.

However, it also appears that Fred waited around for his compatriot in order to exchange shirts with the Liverpool goalkeeper - who he plays alongside on international duty for Brazil. Alisson is seen later on in the footage no longer wearing his jersey.

Fred has been a regular in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this season, making 19 appearances in the Premier League and six more in other cup competitions.
