Why Manchester United loss at Wolves has given Solskjaer a selection headache

Manchester United's chances of finishing in the top four were dealt a blow on Tuesday night as they went down 2-1 at Wolves.

Scott McTominay's opener was cancelled out by Diogo Jota before Chris Smalling's own-goal handed the hosts all three points.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Solskjaer explained how many points he thinks United will need to seal a spot in the Champions League next season.

"I've said we needed 15 points in last seven games or 18 from the last eight," Solskjaer said. "We've got three against Watford so now we need 15 in the last six.

"So we don't have room for many more room for losses, no. It is a difficult run but we are a very good team, so it will be difficult for those who play against us and this was always going to be a very tough game and the performance deserved a win."

Man Utd player ratings vs Wolves: Paul Pogba poor but Scott McTominay good

United aren't back in Premier League action until April 13 but when they take to the pitch against West Ham at Old Trafford they will do so without two of their first-team regulars.

Ashley Young will miss the match through suspension after his red card against Wolves, while Luke Shaw will miss United's next two league games after picking up his 10th booking of the season at Molineux.

Frustratingly, had Shaw avoided a booking, his previous nine yellow cards would have been wiped out as the deadline for the two-match suspension would have passed by the time United play West Ham.

With Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia both currently injured, Diogo Dalot could be United's only recognised fit full-back available for the game against the Hammers.

That could mean an outing for Marcos Rojo at left-back with Dalot lining up at right-back.
