Why Manchester United do not have a Premier League game this weekend

We’re sorry to break it to you United fans, but there’s no football for your club this weekend.

With Wolves ’ progression to the FA Cup semi-finals, Red Devils supporters are going to have to wait until Wednesday for their first-leg encounter with Barcelona .

Tuesday’s game at Molineux was initially scheduled for Saturday, but after losing to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the FA Cup quarter-finals you’re going to have to sit and think what could’ve been on Sunday afternoon.

It was set to look very different when Scott McTominay’s 13th-minute drive found the very bottom corner of Rui Patricio’s goal on Tuesday evening, yet it’s now two defeats in as many games in Wolverhampton this season for United.

Wolves’ first goal came through Raul Jimenez who slid Diogo Jota in midway through the first-half, before Chris Smalling then put the ball into his own net with 15 minutes left to play.

Ashley Young was also sent for an early bath after a late challenge on Wolves’ first goalscorer, Jota.

The defeat was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first since his appointment as permanent United boss, and the Red Devils now sit two points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal who will play their game in hand against Everton on Sunday.

Tottenham jumped into third with their victory over Crystal Palace in the first game in their new stadium on Wednesday evening.

United's Under-18s are in action, however, against Sunderland at midday on Saturday. The match will be shown live on MUTV.
