Why Manchester City wore black and red training kit ahead of FA Cup final at Wembley

Manchester City fans may have noticed something different about their side's attire ahead of the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Pep Guardiola's side came out for their pre-match warm-up wearing red and black striped shirts, something totally different to their normal Nike training wear.

But there was a reason behind the change in outfit. City were paying tribute to the side that claimed the FA Cup back 1969.

It's now 50 years since Joe Mercer guided City to their fourth FA Cup triumph at the home of English football - with Neil Young netting the all important goal against Leicester City.

But on that day back in '69, Mercer's Blues wore their second kit for the clash with the Foxes wearing their normal blue strip.

City wore a striking black and white striped kit for the clash, and in a bid to remember one of their finest side's of yesteryear, which included club legends like Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee, Guardiola's side wore shirts resplendent of the kit, which also included the Manchester coat of arms.
