Why Man City vs Borussia Monchengladbach second leg has been moved to Budapest

The second leg of Man City's Champions League last-16 tie with Borussia Monchengladbach will now take place in Budapest.

While it had initially looked like the game would take place at the Etihad Stadium, a change in Covid-19 regulations in Germany has extended travel restrictions, meaning Monchengladbach would be unable to travel to England for the match.

Instead, the game will be contested at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, which coincidentally also hosted the tie's first leg in late February due to City being unable to travel to Germany due to the restrictions.

The game remains scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 16, with an 8pm kick-off.

Pep Guardiola's reaction to Manchester derby defeat

City hold a 2-0 lead in the last-16 tie thanks to a comfortable victory in the first leg.

Goals from Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus gave City victory in a game they arguably should have won by more.

Despite both legs now taking place in a neutral venue, UEFA have declared that the away goals rule will still be in place for every Champions League knockout tie, which gives City an added advantage after their 'away' leg.

The 67,215-capacity Puskas Arena appears to have become the stadium of choice for neutral-venue European matches to be held in.

As well as hosting both legs of City's tie with Monchengladbach, it is also the venue for both legs of Liverpool's game with RB Leipzig. It has also played host to Spurs' game against Wolfsberg and Molde against Granada in the Europa League.

The stadium is currently scheduled to host four Euro 2020 matches.
