Man City vs Bayern Munich pre-season friendly hit by delay and suspension due to storm

Manchester City's pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich has been hit by delays due to a lightning storm in the area.

With around 15 minutes to go before kick-off both City and Bayern players took to the pitch at Lambeau Field, an announcement was made that the game would be delayed. A message on the big screen in Green Bay read: "The National Weather Service has indicated a lightning storm is present in the area.

"For your personal safety we ask that all fans seated in the stadium bowl move to the shelter of the concourses in an orderly manner. Thank you for your co-operation."

According to MEN Sport reporter Joe Bray in Wisconsin heavy rain had been falling in the last hour before the original kick-off time. Fans meanwhile greeted the safety announcement with boos as they vacated their seats.

The warning was lifted at around 6.10pm local time - 10 minutes after the scheduled kick-off, and the match got underway five minutes later.

But immediately after Erling Haaland scored a debut goal for City on 12 minutes, the referee took the players off the pitch as the rain poured down and lightning cracked around the stadium.

After a delay of nearly an hour, the match resumed - as a result of the lost time the two sides were set to play a reduced match of two 40-minute halves.
