Why Man City's Claudio Bravo has been sent home from international duty

Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and the rest of Chile's squad that was in line to play Peru next week have been sent home after the match was called off.

Chile's players took the decision not to play in the friendly as the country continues to suffer from the effects of weeks of political protests and violent unrest.

"The players called up for the Chilean national team have decided not to play in the friendly against Peru, scheduled for next Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Lima," a statement by the Chilean FA said.

"The decision was taken by the squad after a meeting held this morning."

The Chilean FA confirmed the players had been told they were free to return to their clubs.

Protests in Chile began last month in response to a rise in subway fares as well as high living costs and inequality in the country.

More than 20 civilians have been killed since since the unrest began and the violence is the worst the country has seen since 1990.
