Why Man City fan was made to take down anti VAR sign in Everton game

A Manchester City fan was forced to take down a homemade sign against Everton because it was obstructing views of the pitch, according to club officials.

In a game in which VAR caused more controversy with both sets of fans unhappy at the interference in play, a supporter in the home end attracted attention for a sign that read 'RIP Football. VAR is here. Fans boycott?'

The supporter was then asked to take down the sign by stewards and could be seen rolling it up. A club spokesperson said that this was not due to the sentiment of the message but because other fans sat nearby had their view obstructed and asked that stewards take the banner down.

Pep Guardiola has not been happy with the way VAR has worked this season, pointing to a number of decisions that went against his team including a late goal disallowed for Gabriel Jesus ruled out against Tottenham in their first home game of the campaign.

Jesus scored both goals against Everton as the Premier League champions held on for a 2-1 win.

Richarlison got one back to add to the tension in a game where all three goals came in the second half but the Blues saw out the game to stay a point behind Leicester in second place.
