Why Lyon are frustrated with Malo Gusto as new Chelsea signing spotted at Stamford Bridge

Olympique Lyonnais are said to be upset with the situation surrounding Malo Gusto as the defender continues to nurse his injury at Chelsea's Cobham training ground. The 19-year-old is on loan at the French outfit until the end of the season after signing for Chelsea in the January transfer window for a fee in the region of £26million, plus add-ons.

Gusto was replaced by Castello Lukeba in the first-half of Lyon's clash with Lille in the Coupe de France round of 16 last month. The right-back aggravated a hamstring injury, which according to Laurent Blanc, has been causing him pain for a while.

Speaking to l'Equipe, the Lyon boss revealed that Gusto has suffered 'physically and mentally' with the knock. Blanc said: "It's a pain he's been feeling for some time.

"It's not a big problem, but it bothers him physically and mentally. We will try to treat him well... I don't think it will take too long, but it has to be done."

Then, ahead of Lyon's tie with RC Lens a few days later, Blanc pleaded that the higher-ups at Lyon and Chelsea 'show common sense' when managing the France youth international's return. He added: "We have a problem with Malo.

"He injured his hamstring a few days ago and he recovered. He didn't reinjure himself; it wasn't a tear. He still has discomfort. You must treat it well but it's not much. I hope that OL and Chelsea will show common sense."

Following his injury, the Blues confirmed that Gusto would spend 'eight to 10 weeks under supervision of medical staff' at Cobham training ground. However, while the Frenchman has been acclimatising to life in London, a lack of communication has proven to be an issue, according to Le Progres.

The report states that Lyon and head coach Blanc have received the 'bare minimum' information regarding Gusto's fitness. The defender appears to be recovering well having been spotted at Stamford Bridge watching Chelsea's win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Le Progres add that Lyon would like know if Gusto will be available before the international break in late March. Blanc would also like to know if the defender could feature in the Coupe de France semi-final on April 5.
