Luke Freeman may have only just arrived at Nottingham Forest but the playmaker already knows the ins and outs of the club after months of research.
Freeman’s season-long loan switch from Sheffield United was confirmed on Friday night, seven months after Forest tried to sign him in the January transfer window.
Since then, Freeman has been following the club’s fortunes, and speaking to former Red Ben Osborn, a team-mate at the Blades, to get the lowdown on life at the City Ground.
“I can’t wait, it’s something I’m really looking forward to,” Freeman told the club after his arrival.
“I was watching from a distance last year and the lads were really unlucky to miss out, so hopefully I can be one of the new signings who makes a difference.
“I have been speaking to him [Osborn] quite often because it’s been going on for a little while behind the scenes. I’ve been picking his brains and asking him a lot of questions. He spoke very highly of the club. I can’t wait to get going.”
The last time he was in the Championship, with QPR in 2018-19, Freeman registered seven goals and six assists.
Now, he hopes to tot up similar numbers for a “massive club” in Forest.
“I love playing in the Championship and I really can’t wait to get going,” he said.
“It’s a massive club. Coming here as an away player it was a tough place to come to. It’s certainly a fortress for Nottingham Forest. I’m looking forward to being a part of that and hopefully we can pick up a lot of points this year.
“[I hope to bring] positive play. Trying to take the team forward with hopefully goals and assists, which is what I’ve done before in the Championship and bring many more to the team here.”
