Why Lucas Moura's return to form has come at the perfect time for Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs

Lucas Moura was the star of the show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as his hat-trick helped Spurs to a 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

With Victor Wanyama opening the scoring with a well-taken goal, the Brazilian doubled the lead with a fantastic strike before netting twice late on to complete his hat-trick.

Many expected Mauricio Pochettino to start with Son Heung-min in Harry Kane's absence, yet he elected to leave the South Korean on the bench with Fernando Llorente and Lucas used in attack.

Hailing the ex-PSG man after the game, the manager now believes his performance will see his confidence skyrocket ahead of two crucial games against Man City.

"Football moves so quick and after the game when Harry got injured everyone believed Sonny was going to step up and is going to be the man but we have seen today, first of all Fernando deserved to score and had very good performance and then Lucas got a hat-trick and it was an unbelievable afternoon for him," said the Argentine at his press conference.

"Players need to have the possibility to play to show the quality and that is why sometimes all the managers are disappointed when the people say about rotation about selection of the starting XI.

"When you have 25 players they need to play and have the opportunity to play.

"I am so happy, the performance was very professional, I am happy for Lucas for his hat-trick.

"It is going to help and bring his confidence.

"We have ahead a very tough period, two games against Manchester City and then Brighton, it is going to be tough, we need all the players fit.

"And with confidence it is going to be better if we feel we have the capacity to perform the way we want and close to achieve all the things we plan."
