Why Liz Hurley's son Damian had to take millionaire granddad to court

Liz Hurley’s son Damian has won a share of his dad's £456million family fortune after a bitter court battle with his granddad.

But why was the 17-year-old even in court with his own family?

Multi-millionaire Dr Peter Bing attempted to stop grandson Damian from gaining access to his vast fortune because he was born out of wedlock .

Dr Bing claimed that his son Steve, 54, has “never met” model Damian, and he does not want the teenager to inherit any money.

But this week an LA judge ruled that the teenager is a rightful heir to the family fortune, alongside his half-sister Kira Kerkorian.

Dr Bing had insisted that after setting up the family trust in 1980, he stipulated that any grandchild must be "raised by my children as part of their families" to benefit from it.

He said in recent court papers that the trust "would not benefit any person bought out of wedlock unless that person had lived for a substantial period of time as a regular member of the household".

Dr Bing argued the definition of "grandchild" in the trust was unclear.

But in court papers filed on Tuesday, Judge Daniel Juarez wrote: "There is no ambiguity in the trust’s use of the term 'grandchild'.

"The trustee's [Dr Bing] interpretation of the trusts is unreasonable, and the trustee’s construction of 'grandchild' is simply unfounded."

Damian was born to The Royals actress Elizabeth, 54, in 2002.

Steve initially denied he was the father, saying the couple were not in an exclusive relationship at the time, but a test proved his paternity.

But he has now stood by his son, calling his own father's petition a "sham".

Steve accused Dr Bing, of "orchestrating a massive money-grab" with his sister Mary, 53, so her children would inherit more money.

The case kicked off when Kira, Steve's daughter with former tennis pro Lisa Bonder, said she should be a beneficiary of the fortune,

But Dr Bing insisted she wasn't entitled to anything, saying in his affidavit: "Regardless of whether, when and if Stephen met with or had any relationship with Damian or Kira while they are or were minor because neither was raised by him during their formative years l do not consider them my grandchildren."
