Why Liverpool youngster Adam Lewis could be perfect solution for left-back transfer problem

After a stellar 2018/19 campaign, in which Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool lifted the Champions League trophy, the club have made it clear they won't be splashing the cash on new signings this summer.

So, with the departure of Alberto Moreno, who left the club on a free transfer at the end of the season, the Reds may have to look at promoting one of its young left-backs into the first team, as Andy Robertson is now Klopp's only senior natural left-back.

The main candidate to be promoted to the first team is 19-year-old Adam Lewis, who was a regular for the Liverpool Under-23 side last season, making 29 appearances, scoring once and assisting six times.

So, can Lewis make the step up?

What are his best attributes?

And, how good can he become in the future?

We used the highly-respected Football Manager 2019 database to find out.

Adam Lewis - Liverpool

(Football Manager 2019)

Lewis is a talented left-sided player who is also extremely versatile, capable of playing in any position on the left flank and can also play centrally if needed, such is his technical and tactical ability.

His technical prowess is demonstrated by his high free kick taking, penalty taking, tackling and crossing attributes, which are very strong for such a young player, it's fair to say that he is a set piece expert, particularly at youth level.

The 19-year-old also has all the personality and mental traits you would want from a young player. His personality type is described as 'Driven', his determination value is an incredible 18 out of 20, which suggests he will put in 110% into his development, performances and will stop at nothing to help his team succeed. That sounds very much like a Klopp-type player, who would benefit hugely under the German's coaching.

The left-back has three player traits, which are; 'Gets Forward Whenever Possible', 'Curls Ball' and 'Dives into Tackles'.

He's also a local lad, who has been at Liverpool since Under-6s level, so he knows what it means to play for the club.

The local boy has been given a potential ability of -75 on Football Manager 2019, which means he can reach an overall current ability of 150. To put that into context, if he reaches his potential, he could develop and become a similar level of player to Andrew Robertson (152) in the future, which would make the Reds extremely strong at left-back.

His current ability suggests that he's not yet at first team level, but with experience of being in and around the first team, playing with some of the best players in the world, maybe a few cup and league appearances here or there, Lewis could prove a valuable option for Jurgen Klopp this season.

And, his attributes suggest that if Lewis was called upon for first team action, he certainly wouldn't let Liverpool down, plus he's got the technical ability to impress.
