Why Liverpool will be 'desperate' to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy believes his old club will be “desperate” to sign Mason Mount.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder ever since before the January transfer window opened. And in recent weeks, the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle have also been rumoured to be interested in signing Mount.

As things stand, Mount’s current deal with Chelsea is set to expire at the end of next season. From this summer, he would then be entering the final 12 months of his deal.

Chelsea are believed to be keen on handing the 24-year-old an extension. However, it has been reported that negotiations between the two parties have stalled in recent weeks.

Murphy has explained why he thinks a number of clubs would be keen on signing Mount, but believes that Liverpool will be “desperate” to get a deal over the line.

“I’d definitely want to keep him because I know what I’m getting,” Murphy told Talksport.

“I am getting 100 per cent commitment from a player who loves the club. Who’s got great technical ability, and who can play in multiple positions.

“I think he is a super talent and a really good character. I’m on board with him. I love everything about him.”

Murphy added: “I would be desperately trying to get him at my club if I was Liverpool.

“They will all be in for him. They will all try and get him. Newcastle, Liverpool, United will go in for him.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Arsenal were in for him. Why wouldn’t you want him?”
