Why Liverpool squad won't watch Man City vs Cardiff - but Jurgen Klopp will

Liverpool's squad won't get together to watch Manchester City in action against Cardiff City on Wednesday evening.

But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will keep one eye on events at the Etihad as the Premier League title race takes another twist.

City will move back top of the Premier League a point clear of Liverpool should they beat the relegation-threatened Welsh side at the Etihad.

Any other outcome, though, would leave Klopp's side at the summit with six games remaining.

However, when asked if the Liverpool squad will meet up to watch City's match together, Joel Matip said: "No, I think not.

"We can only concentrate on the things that we can decide."

Speaking to Sky Sports, Reds defender Matip added: "We cannot change how they will play, we focus on our way and our games."

Klopp, though, has indicated he will be tuning in to observe - but not because of Pep Guardiola's side.

"Is it possible to watch it? Then I will probably watch it!" said the Reds boss, speaking ahead of Liverpool's trip to Southampton on Friday. "But because of Cardiff, not because of Man City, because we play Cardiff in a couple of weeks.”

Liverpool travel to South Wales on April 21 for a fixture that could see Neil Warnock's side relegated from the top flight.
