Why Liverpool new boy Sepp van den Berg is ineligible for Tranmere friendly

Liverpool fans will have to wait to see summer signing Sepp van den Berg in action.

The Reds completed the signing of the 17-year-old defender from PEC Zwolle earlier this month.

Van den Berg was drafted into Jurgen Klopp's first-team and trained with his new teammates at Melwood this week.

But he will not make his bow in the friendly against Tranmere on Thursday night.

Liverpool confirmed the teenager is still awaiting clearance from FIFA and is ineligible to feature against the League One side.

Liverpool begin their pre-season schedule at Prenton Park with a host of youngsters likely to feature.

The Reds have confirmed Simon Mignolet and Champions League hero Divock Origi, who signed a new contract this week, would play some part.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to be involved, as are Fabinho, James Milner and Adam Lallana but Dejan Lovren won't be considered.

Jurgen Klopp has urged his youngsters to take their opportunity in the first weeks of pre-season with Liverpool taking on Bradford on Sunday before heading to the States.

"These boys are our future if they want to be our future. That’s how it is because for that they need to take all the steps," Klopp said.

"A lot of them will be part of the US tour, we have to use that because of the number of games we play. We need all of them and that’s nice.

"Only as an example, Bobby Duncan and Paul Glatzel: our offensive line that played last year is coming pretty late in joining us in the pre-season, so we have to be creative system-wise and all that stuff, but there will be moments when they have to play."
