Why Liverpool have cancelled a supporters' dinner with three first-team stars

Liverpool have issued an apology to supporters after a special dinner event with three first-team stars was cancelled.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were due to meet around 450 supporters at Anfield on Thursday evening.

But the dinner has now had to be postponed as Jurgen Klopp insists the squad's full focus is on Premier League and Champions League success.

Liverpool host already-relegated Huddersfield at Anfield on Friday night, and head to Barcelona next week for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.

Given that both matches are evening kick-offs, Klopp is likely to have his players training in the evenings in the build-up to them.

The Liverpool Echo have obtained the letters that the Reds have sent to fans apologised for the cancellation, and stating that the dinner will now take place at a later date.

The letter read: “Given our strong position in the Premier League and Champions League, the team is continuing its important preparations for the final key games of the season.

"Therefore the decision has been taken to postpone this event to a later date which will likely be at the start of the new season.

“Please accept our sincerest apologies for the change, whilst we know this is disappointing, your tickets will still be valid for the revised date once confirmed.”
