Why Liverpool FC midfielder Fabinho has Manchester United to thank ahead of Champions League final

Fabinho has thanked Manchester United for building his confidence as he prepares for the Champions League final with Liverpool.

Brazil international Fabinho will be looking to end his maiden season in English football in style on Saturday night as he takes on Tottenham in Madrid.

The 25-year-old endured a turbulent start to his Liverpool career having made the £40million move from Monaco last summer, but has now firmly established himself in Jurgen Klopp's first-team plans.

Fabinho will be dreaming of an appearance in the European showpiece event on Saturday night as he looks to win the first trophy of his Anfield career.

However, things could have turned out differently for the Brazil international had he not had such a confidence boost against United during Jose Mourinho's mfinal match in charge back in December.

“The two games in particular that stood out for me was the game against Arsenal," Fabinho said. "That’s when I really understood the speed of the Premier League and the attention to detail that is required, and in terms of building my confidence, the stand-out game was against Manchester United.

“In terms of the game with Manchester United, it was probably one of the best of the season.

“I managed to get an assist in that game (his clever, chipped pass set up Sadio Mane’s opener) and I really kept up with the rhythm and pace. I think we were much superior than Manchester United.”
