Danny Murphy has insisted Liverpool fans should have no qualms over the transfer fee paid for Diogo Jota following the success of Sadio Mane.
The ex-Wolves forward penned a five-year deal at Anfield on Saturday in a deal worth an initial £41million, rising to £45million.
However, the ECHO understands Liverpool will only pay 10 per cent of that figure to Wolves over the next 12 months.
With Thiago Alacantara also arriving on Friday and making an eye-catching debut against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the Reds have significantly strengthened their squad ahead of another title assault.
Although the deal has been widely renowned as positive for Liverpool as they add further depth to their forward line, there have been some question marks over the sizeable fee.
Murphy, though, has insisted that Liverpool's track record shows they deserve to be trusted with Jota's arrival and reminded listeners about the scepticism surrounding Mane's transfer from Southampton for £30million.
"The recruitment history at Liverpool has been phenomenal in the last few seasons, that's for sure," Murphy told talkSPORT.
"Jota came out the blue, I didn't see that one coming. He can play across the front three, he's versatile, he's hungry.

"Time will tell (on the fee), people turned their noses up at Mane for £30million for Southampton. Who are we to question their judgement?
"He's definitely someone that is at the right age, in terms of wanting to improve and get better. Klopp generally improves players as well.
"If you've got someone who got 17 goals for Wolves last season under the management of Klopp and around better players, why can't he kick on again? Sensible business."
