Why Liverpool fans shouldn't lose title hope even if Man City beat Man Utd

For most who have followed the title race, the general consensus is that Manchester City will place one hand on the Premier League trophy if they win at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Considering Manchester United's inept display against Everton , some Liverpool fans have already given up hope of a favour from their bitter rivals in midweek.

But even if the City express train steamrollers all in front of them in the derby, the Reds faithful shouldn't dismiss the idea of Pep Guardiola's team dropping points elsewhere.

Some will look at the current champions' away games at Burnley and Brighton as potential banana skins.

But it's actually a home match with a midtable side which could present Liverpool's best chance of seeing their foes slip up.

What Paul Pogba did after Man Utd's defeat at Everton that made fans furious

Leicester City's excellent away record is offering encouragement at Anfield - as of course is the fact that the 2016 champions are managed by their former boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes have the sixth best record away from home, winning seven times on the road and of course drew at their place earlier in the season.

Not only that, but when they are away from home they are in fact the best second half team around.

If games counted after the break, they would have won 12 and taken 40 points - so they are sure to push City until the final whistle.

But Reds fans can count on a reaction from United on Wednesday if Ashley Young's comments are anything to go by.

Liverpool transfer news: Reds now 'in control of the race to land Nicolas Pepe'

"I don't think that was a Manchester United performance," the defender said. "It's disappointing and we have got four games left, we have got to dust ourselves down - we've got a big one on Wednesday.

"It will show our character, I know we have great talent and it's a big one for us on Wednesday now.

"You set your stall to go and be on the front foot and it just wasn't that. You still think if you get that first goal you can get something out of the game but it wasn't meant to be.

"It's crucial when you get the first goal. We couldn't concentrate on them it was us playing out there. When you're a Man Utd team, we had a first shot on goal late in the second half, it's not good enough."
