Liverpool will not be signing Sergio Ramos – but their refusal to look at the Real Madrid captain as a possible summer target has nothing to do with the Spaniard's dirty tricks in last year's Champions League final.
Reports in Spain claim both Liverpool and Manchester United have made contact with Ramos' camp about a switch to the Premier League following the centre-back's row with Real president Florentino Perez.
Ramos and Perez fell out in the Bernabau dressing room in the aftermath of the shock 4-1 Champions League quarter-final defeat to Ajax – and the rift has continued to grow.
But Liverpool will not be offering Ramos an escape route to England.
A senior source at Anfield said: “There is 0.0 percent chance of Sergio Ramos playing for Liverpool.
“It has nothing to do with what happened in Kiev last season.
“Even if we had won the Champions League final and Ramos had shook the hand of every Liverpool player afterwards we would still have no interest in him.
“Ramos just doesn't fit the kind of profile that Jurgen Klopp is looking for.
“We wouldn't even sign him if he was available on a free.”
Liverpool lost 3-1 to Real after Ramos performed his dark arts on Mo Salah and Loris Karius.
Reds' talisman Salah lasted just half-an-hour before being forced off by a shoulder injury sustained when Ramos threw him violently to the turf.
Karius committed two terrible mistakes to allow Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to score – but was later diagnosed with concussion after clashing with Ramos in an aerial challenge.
Ramos, 33, has lifted the Champions League four times and has four La Liga titles to show for his 14-year stint with Real.
He has also won the World Cup and two European championships during an international career with Spain that has realised 163 caps.
Madrid are said to be looking for £30million to sell a player who has £705million release clause in his contract.
United are also in the market for a centre-back, but Ramos has flirted with them before only to use their interest to screw a new contract out of Real.
