Why Lidl in Southmead was closed unexpectedly

Visitors to a Lidl supermarket in Bristol were turned away at the door yesterday morning (Wednesday, March 11).

People hoping to shop at the retailer's Southmead branch were instead met by a sign on the front door stating the shop was closed.

The sign read: "Due to technical issues store will be closed until further notice."

A spokesperson for the German chain told Bristol Live the closure was "nothing to worry about" and that the store was only closed for around one hour.

A member of the customer service team said: "There was an issue with one of the ovens in the Southmead store's bakery, it was nothing to worry about.

"As a result there was some smoke in the store.

"An engineer was called and managed to resolve the issue.

"The store was only closed for around one hour before reopening."

The Southmead Road store is now "back up and running as normal" added the spokesperson.
