Why Leeds United should feel confident landing Helder Costa

Of all the players Leeds United have been linked with so far this summer, it is the prospect of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Helder Costa that has got fans most excited.

The thought of reuniting Costa with Barry Douglas at left-back and recreating the left side which got Wolves promoted in 2018 is a mouthwatering prospect and, according to former Leeds United player-turned television pundit Danny Mills, fans have good reason to get excited.

“I think Leeds have a good chance of signing him,” Mills told Football Insider.

He added: “I can see Wolves loaning him as I expect them to invest this summer and bring in new players."

During Wolves' promotion season, Costa played for the West Midlands club 39 times, scoring five goals. He has struggled to make much of an impact in the Premier League and found his game time limited.

Mills said: “If he sees himself slipping down the Wolves pecking order he is likely to think he needs more regular football and a move. He is on the fringes. If Wolves bring in an attacking player or two and strengthen, that could make up his mind.

And what is the big draw that makes Mills believe Costa will swap the West Midlands for West Yorkshire?

“A big attraction for Premier League players joining Leeds is Bielsa," he said. "That’s what Costa will be looking at, thinking he wants to play for Bielsa. He will want to play week in, week out as well, so you could see this happening.”
