Why Leeds United's hilarious Twitter prowess could soon be a thing of the past

The EFL is reportedly set to act after criticism of a tweet sent out by the official Leeds United Twitter account following Derby County's defeat to Aston Villa in the play-off final.

The account reignited a Twitter spat with Derby-supporting former One Directioner Niall Horan from earlier in the season, where the singer had tweeted: "Between @dcfcofficial and I we've played at Wembley more times in the last 2 years than you lot."

After Derby lost the Play-Off Final, the Leeds United official account replied: "Hopefully you performed better than @dcfcofficial! See you next season! #StopCrying".

The tweet drew criticism from across the football world including former Leeds United loanee Michael Gray who told talkSPORT that “whoever is writing these tweets should be told to stop”.

When Fulham were relegated from the Premier League, the club's Twitter account started following Championship rivals Brentford. This was prompted a tweet from Brentford saying: "Thanks for the follow lads, welcome back!#BrentfordFC".

The Daily Mail has reported that one Championship manager was so angry that their club was baiting another team on social media, he asked for the post to be immediately taken down.

The EFL has already warned clubs not to target referees on their social media accounts and will use its summer conference in Portugal this month to remind clubs of their respect campaign.

Fans have enjoyed following as the club has taken on everyone from Pizza Hut to Norwich City and the EFL's team of the week.
