Why Leeds United fans should stay confident with Mateusz Klich on penalties

Penalties may not be taken off Mateusz Klich any time soon after his first miss for Leeds United on Saturday, especially after Kalvin Phillips’s post-match revelation.

The Wortley midfielder is confident his Polish team-mate will not be too discouraged by the pivotal miss in the second half of the draw with Derby County.

Furthermore, Phillips revealed Klich is regularly stepping up from 12 yards out in training every day. He is yet to see him miss.

“Klich practises penalties all the time and I don't think I've ever seen him miss to be honest,” said Phillips.

“It was just one of those things. It happens. I'm pretty sure he won’t be too disheartened about it.

“As long as he comes out next week and gets a goal and makes up for it.”

United have failed to convert five of their last eight penalties aside from shootouts. Asked when he would be taking his turn from 12 yards, Phillips laughed: “I don't know.

“I'm pretty sure all the players like to have a go at the pens and Klichy will be disappointed, but I've seen Klichy in training every day and he's never missed so it's just one of those things.”
