Why Kyle Scott is unlikely to feature for Newcastle United against Rochdale in the FA Cup

Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott will not feature in tomorrow's FA Cup tie against Rochdale.

Head coach Steve Bruce revealed that 'three or four youngsters' will travel to the Spotland Stadium with the first team in the middle of an injury crisis.

While several of those didn't feature for the U23s on Friday against Fulham due to an imminent call-up, summer signing Scott will not be one of them.

Scott underwent surgery on his groin in November and it is understood the 22-year-old is aiming to return to action by the middle of the month - meaning this weekend's cup tie has come too early for the American.

Tweeting in November, Scott revealed his injury: "Had surgery yesterday morning on my groin.

"Not the best of times for me but everything went well and hopefully won’t be out on the side for long.

"Will be working to get back fit as soon as i can."

It's thought that there remains interest from Football League clubs, and sides in America, in taking Scott on loan but the focus remains breaking through at Newcastle once fully recovered.
