Why Kim Kardashian was forced to use a different surrogate for baby number four

There will be the patter of tiny feet in the Kardashian West household during 2019 after Kim confiremd today that the couple's fourth child - a boy - has been born via surrogate.

Kim and her husband Kanye West were keen to repeat the surrogacy process that brought them their daughter Chicago, but they have been forced to investigate a different route this time around.

On January 15 it will be a year since Chicago was born and there were plans to use the same surrogate mother for baby number four.

There has been a spanner thrown in to the works though, as the original surrogate is believed to having a child of her own in February and this has ruled her out of carrying another of the reality star's offspring.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star had another embryo with rapper Kanye and it has always been their intention to use it to expand their family further.

A source has told People that the pair had, "hoped to work with the same gestational carrier," but after that didn't work out, they are now, "working with a second carrier now that is pregnant and will give birth in the spring.”

It would seem that 38-year-old Kim is having a very 'hands on' approach to this pregnancy and, "is very involved with the carrier."

The woman was apparently local to Kim and Kanye, 41, and they made sure the surrogate "had everything she needed," while Kim went 'to doctor's visits with her' to ensure the pregnancy went as smoothly as possible.

It is dangerous for Kim to carry another child after she suffered from a placenta accreta after the birth of son, Saint.

This is when part or all of the placenta remains connected to the uterine wall after childbirth and affects just three in 1,000 pregnancies.

The condition can result in heavy blood loss, which has proved deadly in the past, hence why Kim now has gone down the surrogacy route for Chicago and now her new baby son.

The source said that three-year-old Saint and daughter North, five, are "very excited" about the new arrival but Kim and Kanye reportedly left it until the last minute to prepare for the baby.
