Why Kevin De Bruyne is wary of Newcastle United ahead of 'all or nothing' FA Cup quarter-final

Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne admits his side are wary of how 'dangerous' Newcastle can be on the counter-attack.

The reigning FA Cup champions travel to Tyneside tomorrow to take on the Magpies in the quarter-finals of the competition at St James' Park.

The Citizens are overwhelming favourites to come out on top - particularly now the match will be played behind closed doors because of the coronavirus pandemic.

De Bruyne, who has 11 goals and 19 assists to his name this season, is likely to be City's principal threat on Sunday and Newcastle boss Steve Bruce did little to play down his quality during Friday's press conference.

But while Newcastle are fully aware of the challenge they face to reach their first FA Cup semi-final in 15 years, Man City are also acutely aware of the threat Newcastle can pose to them.

Newcastle are undefeated in their last two clashes against Manchester City at home and De Bruyne admits it is 'always tough' to play at St James' Park.

"It is always tough to play there," De Bruyne told BBC's Football Focus.

"I think they have a good team, they have a good structure and they know what they are doing as a team and they have some good forward players.

"They are really dangerous on the break and they have a lot of pace so it is going to be a hard game.

"It is a cup game and it is all or nothing so we are going to try and win the game on Sunday.

"We need to recover real quick and be ready for it on Sunday."
