Why Jurgen Klopp was surprised with VAR call and Firmino praise as Liverpool see off Newcastle

Liverpool made it five wins from five to start the new Premier League season as they beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Anfield.

Sadio Mane grabbed a brace , along with Roberto Firmino assisting Mo Salah for the Reds’ third, despite falling behind to Steve Bruce’s side.

The Post-Game podcast is here to react , following Liverpool’s 14th consecutive Premier League win.

Hear from our Liverpool correspondent Paul Gorst as he delivers his verdict from Anfield , with the Reds becoming the first side in league history to win 14 games in a row whilst scoring more than once in each of those matches.

You can also catch the entirety of Jurgen Klopp’s post-match press conference too.

The German fields a wide range of questions, including his view on the performance against the Magpies, the injury sustained to Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino’s brilliant performance from the bench plus an incident between Joel Matip and Jamal Lascelles that failed to see Liverpool awarded a penalty.

With the introduction of VAR during the off-season, there has been little interference from the Video Assistant Referees so far this season, which is something Klopp later questions in his press conference.

As well as all of that we have our usual array of contributors calling in to have their say.

Included is a brief musical interlude as Owen Thomas pays his own tribute to Sadio Mane.

Enjoy.
