Why Jurgen Klopp the workaholic sponge won't be satisfied with Liverpool Champions League glory

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been called a "workaholic" and a "sponge" who won't be satisfied with Champions League glory in Madrid.

Klopp earned the Reds a sixth European Cup by guiding his team to a 2-0 final triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

It was also a first trophy for the Liverpool manager since taking over at Anfield in October 2015.

And former Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann, who like Klopp hails from near Stuttgart in the Baden-Wurttemberg region of their homeland, believes the Reds boss will not be resting on his laurels.

“He’s a workaholic because that’s in our blood where we come from," said Klinsmann.

"He’s sponge, that always wants to learn and always wants to look at what is next... and it never gets saturated.

“Winning the Champions League final now, the first thought of him a day later will be, ‘how do I win this next year?’

“So he will never be satisfied... he doesn’t stop. He will be working on it now, how he can move the pieces to make it even better.”

Klinsmann added: "He will be looking at how they can improve and come back and do it again.

“It’s amazing what he’d achieved already in his coaching career, but obviously this (the Champions League final win) has topped it all.

"Yet a couple of days later he will go back to business and say, “what’s next?”. That’s just his character.”

Klinsmann was talking as part of a Channel 4 documentary looking at Klopp and Tottenham counterpart Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the final.

And the World Cup winner believes the Liverpool boss is at the ideal club.

"He’s so charismatic and so straight forward and gets to the point, and he’s not losing time in whatever discussion you have with him," said Klinsmann.

"And I think that’s what people appreciate. People just like him. He’s likeable you know? Because he’s so funny, so charismatic, so energetic.

"And that’s what you want from leaders, you don’t want boring leaders that always talk in the same tone, no.

“No, you want people like him saying, ‘That’s what we’re going to do now, we’re going to go out there now and we’re going to beat Barcelona.’ And then he does it.”
