Why Jurgen Klopp called Ben Davies back before Liverpool debut

Jurgen Klopp was caught giving Ben Davies a last-minute hug just moments before the Liverpool defender made his first start for the club in their pre-season game with FC Wacker Innsbruck.

It's been a torrid six months for Davies since he completed his January switch from Championship side Preston North-End.

Davis failed to start a league game for the Reds even at the peak of their defensive crisis and even found himself left out of the matchday squad on a handful of occasions.

Many speculated that Davies could leave Anfield this summer without even kicking a ball for the first team.

However, on Tuesday he pulled on the famous red strip for the first time.

And footage that was captured by the club's cameras on their behind the scenes training videos, showed Klopp pulling Davies aside for an embrace just as he was about to walk onto the pitch.

Despite it only being a pre-season friendly, played with no supporters present, Davies will have been over the moon to have pulled on the Liverpool shirt for the first time and even more so due to the embrace from Klopp.
