Last season, the Tennessee Titans had a historically efficient and productive offense that shattered many franchise records. Their quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, accounted for 4,085 total yards and 40 touchdowns — both franchise-highs since the relocation to Tennessee.
Tannehill’s success was aided by having a full complement of weaponry that included a 2,000-yard running back in Derrick Henry, and essentially two 1000-yard receivers in A.J. Brown and Corey Davis (984 yards).
Davis had an incredible breakout season in 2020. He finally flourished which ultimately led to his departure in free agency after finishing with a career average of 712 yards and two touchdowns over the last four years.
As good as Davis was in 2020, it’s no secret that Henry and Brown are the true alphas of this offense and are the ones who truly require defenses to specifically gameplan for them.
On obvious passing situations, defenses tend to shift their coverages towards Brown, daring someone else to beat them, which Davis did a ton last year.
But there were also moments where he disappeared and the offense became dependent on the two superstars, rspecially come playoff time where Davis’ disappearance was often amplified.
Over his last four playoff games, Davis has only accounted for 68 receiving yards (17 YPG), and one touchdown off a trick play in the 2019 playoffs.
Despite the big-game struggles, Tennessee will miss everything Davis brought to an offense. However, there is one possible trade the Titans can make with their former offensive coordinator down in Atlanta in order to jump start this team from being a borderline contender to an unquestioned one for 2021.
