Sunday's Premier League match at West Bromwich Albion might just present the best opportunity for Jose Mourinho to hand Joe Rodon his full Tottenham Hotspur debut.
The 23-year-old Wales international joined Spurs from Championship side Swansea in an £11m deal last month.
The young centre-back made his Premier League debut last Monday when he came on for the final moments of Tottenham's 1-0 win at Burnley.
When asked by football.london how quickly he felt Rodon could adapt to the English top flight and what the fans can expect from him, Mourinho said: "Let's see. Fundamentally let's see how he adapts to us in training, to the different level, to the different intensity.
"He has already a little bit of experience in the Championship, with Wales and we got him because we see a future in him and a player that can be adapted to the way we want to play.
"Let's work and let's see the evolution and step by step he will be there."
The problem for the Welshman is that he is ineligible for the two competitions where he would have got the most game time.
Rodon was signed a week after Tottenham had submitted their squad for the Europa League group stages, meaning the defender cannot now be registered until the knockout stages if Spurs progress.
He also cannot play in the Carabao Cup as he has already played in the competition for Swansea in the first round against Newport County.
Tottenham have a run of tough fixtures after the upcoming international break as they take on the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool and Mourinho could well decide those games are too big for Rodon to be thrown into.
However, this Sunday's match against West Brom could provide a decent opportunity to hand the young central defender his full debut.
Spurs travel to Bulgaria to face Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday night.
With Rodon unavailable, Eric Dier only having recently recovered from a hamstring injury and Ben Davies having struggled slightly in the centre-back role in the previous European match at Royal Antwerp, Mourinho could well use Toby Alderweireld again alongside Davinson Sanchez.
That lessens the chances of the Spurs boss using 31-year-old Alderweireld in three matches within six days and currently Rodon has been named on the bench in the two previous Premier League matches ahead of Sanchez.
That might lend itself to Rodon starting at the Hawthorns alongside Dier on Sunday.
It would be less of a risk than throwing the Welshman in against most established Premier League opponents.
That's because Rodon came up against the Midlands side last season in the Championship, playing 90 minutes in March and keeping a clean sheet against the team who would finish second in the table.
If he is selected then Rodon then it's down to him to impress and show Mourinho that he can be trusted and then he might just get the chance in one of those big games after the break.
The Portuguese has previous in throwing young players into big matches if he feels they are ready.
He handed Japhet Tanganga his Premier League debut against Liverpool last season and the versatile Spurs academy product will eventually be back at some point from his unfortunate spate of injuries to challenge Rodon for his spot.
The Tottenham fans want to see their final transfer window signing in action, particularly with the buzz from those who have managed him about how good he can be.
The centre-back spots are up for grabs at Spurs with nobody really laying claim to a guaranteed spot in Mourinho's starting line-up with consistently good performances this season in the back line.
The West Brom game could represent the best chance to see what Rodon could do against the Premier League's 17th placed side, who have struggled to score goals in the top flight.
