Why Joe Lolley's form should excite Nottingham Forest and their supporters

It was refreshing to hear Joe Lolley respond to question marks over his form last week.

By his own admission, Lolley’s form hasn’t so far reached the heights it did at times last season, which can actually be viewed as a positive.

Nottingham Forest are fifth in the Championship after 14 games, and arguably, their best player hasn’t yet hit peak form, yet he’s still managed to score four times in league and cup along with a couple of assists.

Lolley turned in a terrific display on Saturday, setting up Sammy Ameobi's winning goal and hopefully, that will continue against Derby this weekend.

It certainly helps when Sabri Lamouchi is playing him off the right flank, which is where I think is his best position.

In that position, Lamouchi does have options available to him with Albert Adomah waiting in the wings to step in, should he be needed.

Occasionally when he’s deployed wide on the left, he’s not quite as effective and its further evidence that putting round pegs in round holes is the right thing to do.

I like Sammy Ameobi there, he’s been a great signing and further emphasised that at the weekend, bagging what proved to be the winner against Luton Town.

One thing which continues to worry me is Matty Cash playing at right-back.

That’s in no way intended as a criticism to Cash, who gives nothing less than 100 percent each and every week, and is getting better game after game.

He’s just not a right-back and going forward, I’m not sure how long Lamouchi can persist with it.

When he comes up against sides that have the ability to take advantage, he will get punished.

Take Hull for example, they probably have two of the best wingers in the league in Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen, and both enjoyed a profitable night a couple of weeks ago.

As much as I like and respect Cash, the sooner Forest can get Carl Jenkinson fit the better.
