Why Jesse Lingard starts for Manchester United vs Norwich and Alejandro Garnacho is on the bench

Jesse Lingard starts and Alejandro Garnacho is on the bench for Manchester United against Norwich. United are back in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon as they host the Canaries at Old Trafford.

Ralf R angnick will be hoping to see an immediate response from his side following their humiliating defeat to Everton a week ago, with three points vital to keep their slim hopes of a top-four finish alive.

United have made four changes from the side that lost at Goodison Park with Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Diogo Dalot and Anthony Elanga coming in.

Speaking ahead of the match, Rangnick explained his team selection and why Lingard has come into the line up: "We are missing a few of our midfield players and in last three games we were struggling to score goals and create big chances," the interim manager told MUTV.

"That is why I decided to go with Bruno and Jesse in midfield plus Paul. We have enough creativity on the pitch to create chances in order to score. It is also important to have the right balance defensively."

Argentine winger Garnacho has been rewarded with his first bench role after an incredible run of form at youth level and Rangnick believes it could be the start of a very bright future at the club.

He added: "He has been training with us the last two weeks and he is one of the most promising players. He is only 17, but if he keeps feet on the ground, he will not only be sitting on the bench but will be playing for this club."
