Finding the right gifts for your loved ones at Christmas can be extremely stressful.
And once you've found and bought the gifts, the stress is far from over.
Wrapping the presents, particularly odd shaped ones can be infuriating, as you try to make them stand with bows, ribbon and glitter.
But if you just can't master the art of getting the right amount of paper around the gift, then fear not.
According to a study, called Presentation Matters: The Effect of Wrapping Neatness on Gift Attitudes, those who are bad at wrapping actually bring more joy to their loved ones than those who can make a present look neat and slick, MirrorOnline reports.
As part of the study, the researchers asked people what they felt when presented with differently wrapped gifts - neat ones and messy ones.
Researchers discovered that participants found badly wrapped presents much more endearing than those that looked professional.
The authors of the study said: "While gift-givers typically wrap gifts prior to presenting them, little is known about the effect of how the gift is wrapped on recipients' expectations and attitudes towards the gift inside.
"We propose that when recipients open a gift from a friend, they like it less when the giver has wrapped it neatly, as opposed to sloppily and we draw on expectation disconfirmation theory to explain the effect.
"Specifically, the recipients set higher expectations for neatly-wrapped gifts, making it harder for the gifts to meet these expectations, resulting in contrast effects that lead to less positive attitudes towards the gifts once unwrapped."
However when it comes to gifting people who are acquaintances and not close friends, the results were a little different and presentation mattered more.
So it seems that if you're gifting your loved ones this Christmas, you don't need to worry too much about how good your wrapping is, as the gift alone helps you spread festive cheer and they'll be pleased you tried.
However, when it comes to the office Secret Santa, you might want to consider making a little more effort with your present.
