Why isn’t Tiger Woods playing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational?

The 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational kicks off with the opening round on Thursday, and casual golf fans tuning in may be wondering: Say, where is that Tiger Woods guy?

Woods had to withdraw from the tournament unfortunately due to a neck strain which he has classified as not too serious, but something he wanted to avoid stressing at the start of the season.

The missed tournament is especially a bummer as Woods was coming off a 10th-place finish at the WGC-Mexico Championship.

From Woods’ Twitter account:

Unfortunately due to a neck strain that I’ve had for a few weeks, I’m forced to withdraw from the API. I’ve been receiving treatment, but it hasn’t improved enough to play. My lower back is fine, and I have no long-term concerns, and I hope to be ready for The Players.

He added: “I’d like to send my regrets to the Palmer family and the Orlando fans. Its connection to Arnold makes it one of my favorite tournaments and I’m disappointed to miss it.”

Woods fans understandably weren’t happy when he made the announcement.
