Why isn't Jennifer Hudson on The Voice UK this year? Singer reveals why she quit

The Voice UK is back for a brand new series this month but don't be expecting to see or hear Jennifer Hudson in action this time around as she isn't on the show.

Jennifer had been a massive hit with her fellow coaches, contestants and viewers at home after joining the ITV series a few years ago - with her memorably duetting with an auditionee on And I'm Telling You from Dreamgirls last year.

However, the former American Idol contestant, turned Oscar winner and chart star revealed at the end of last year that she wouldn't be on the new series.

She broke the news in a tweet, telling her many followers “I’m sad to share that I won’t be able to join my friends in the red chair for The Voice UK this season due to filming commitments here in the States,” she wrote. “I sure will miss my UK family, but I’ll be back soon for Cats and Respect! Throw some shoes for me in the mean time.”

Cats is of course now in cinemas, with its release being met with VERY mixed reviews, while Aretha Franklin biopic Respect will follow later this year.

Jennifer is replaced on The Voice UK for 2020 by fellow American singer . On joining the show, Meghan said “It’s a dream come true and I can’t wait to sit in the chair with my own button and listen to some incredible new talent!”
