'Why isn't Gayle getting a game?' Newcastle fans' verdict on starting XI at Wolves

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce named an unchanged XI for today's Premier League clash with Wolves - prompting fans to again question Dwight Gayle's role.

The Magpies are hoping to get their first Premier League win of the season at Molineux today, but despite Callum Wilson's continued absence, Gayle remains on the bench.

The Magpies missed a series of chances in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Watford, prompting some fans to speculate that Gayle could be handed a chance today.

Fans were scratching their heads on social media, with one twitter user named Ali asking simply: “Why isn't Gayle getting a game?”

Daniel Marr agreed, with a touch of sarcasm, tweeting: “Struggled to score last week so this week we play the same team and leave our strikers on the bench. Good job!”

There was more sarcasm from the Stotty Dog: “Good good, I would hate to risk a striker getting injured. Best keep them away from the starting lineup.”

While Ben Whitely wrote: “Maybe play a striker and we’ll win a game.”

Other selection decisions were also questioned, with one fan writing: “Would love to know what Fabian Schar has to do to get a start.”

Others felt it was the correct choice by Bruce though, with Mark Gillon writing: “No surprise. That group deserved another go.”

While Felix Macdonald had a prediction: “Joe for hat-trick today lad.”
