Why isn't Dancing On Ice on tonight? ITV axe skating show after series of disasters

Viewers hoping to wind up their weekend with the latest instalment of Dancing On Ice will be left bitterly disappointed as the show has been pulled from the schedule.

The 2021 run pulled in millions of viewers last week thanks to a romantic Greatest Love Stories theme in time for Valentine's Day.

The likes of Rebekah Vardy, Faye Brookes and Colin Jackson got into costume to perform some dazzling routines on the ice.

However, the celebs and their professional parters have hung their skates up this week as this evening's talent show has been cancelled by ITV.

The drastic decision was made after a number of injuries and a positive covid-test led to a sudden shortage of contestants being fit to perform.

The news was made in an official statement by ITV who revealed: "ITV have taken the decision to pause Dancing on Ice this week and there will be no live show on Sunday, February 21.

“Each week our production team and cast have delivered a fantastic show during incredibly challenging times."

The talent show is known for it's high-injury risk but this year the drama has reached extraordinary new heights.

Many of those taking parts have been forced to cut their time in the competition short following some nasty falls on the ice.

First Denise Van Outen had to withdraw after dislocating her shoulder.

Graham Bell's partner, Yebin Mok, was absent from the first two shows after she also suffered a nasty injury in training.

Billie Shepherd then took some time off after losing her grandmother before pulling out of the show completely after hitting her head on the ice.

While airing the series amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has also proved to be a nightmare for producers.

In its place ITV are airing a repeat of Dancing On Ice: The Greatest Show on Ice between 6pm and 8pm.

The one-off episode is a selection of memorable moments from the talent contest with Jane Torville and Christopher Dean.

Dancing On Ice is expected to return as normal next Sunday 28 February.
