Why isn’t 49ers-Cardinals game on TV? How to watch the San Francisco-Arizona game

This week, the NFL scheduled games for Christmas Friday and the following Saturday, in addition to the typical Sunday and Monday contests.

With limited college football games Saturday, there are three NFL matchups: Buccaneers-Lions, 49ers-Cardinals and Dolphins-Raiders. But not everyone will be able to watch the San Francisco-Arizona game.

The 49ers-Cardinals game is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET, but — unlike the other two Saturday games available on the NFL Network, in addition to local channels — it’s not being broadcast on traditional TV. Instead, this game is available on Amazon Prime and Twitch, as well as local channels in San Francisco’s and Arizona’s respective markets (KSAZ in Phoenix and on KNTV in the San Francisco Bay Area), ESPN reported.

So unless you’re local to one of these teams or have access to Amazon Prime or Twitch, you’re out of luck for this Saturday afternoon game.

However, the game is being produced by CBS, the network noted, so Andrew Catalon, James Lofton and Sherree Burruss will still be part of the Amazon Prime broadcast. Here are some more details about the 49ers-Cardinals situation, via CBS Sports:

“…Amazon was given a standalone game as part of a new streaming deal the internet giant signed with the NFL back in April. Not only did the deal give Amazon the rights to stream Thursday games through 2022, but the deal also included one game for Amazon that wouldn’t be available to any national TV network and that game is the one being played on Saturday afternoon in Arizona.”

So there you have it. Saturday’s 49ers-Cardinals game is the only NFL game this season not broadcast on traditional TV.

How to watch San Francisco 49ers-Arizona Cardinals game

The 49ers-Cardinals game is Saturday, December 26 at 4:30 p.m. ET. It is available on Amazon Prime, Twitch and local market channels.

Bettling lines, according to BetMGM

  • Point spread: Cardinals -6
  • Money line: 49ers +225 / Cardinals -275
  • Over/Under: 48.5

What do the teams think about the streaming-only options for the game?

Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury initially didn’t know the game would only be available on Amazon Prime or Twitch, ESPN reported:

“But that’s just kind of the deal these days, apparently,” Kingsbury said. “I don’t really know how it will affect me except fewer people probably getting a chance to check it out.”
