Why Is Tones & I Joining The Voice Australia? Fans Go Sleuthing For The Promised Twist

It’s time to make sure those red, over-the-top swivel chairs are in check, ‘cos Australian hitmaker Tones and I will be joining The Voice Australia‘s coaching panel in this year’s shebang.

In what’s been dubbed “the biggest shake-up in The Voice history”, Channel Seven has confirmed that the “Dance Monkey” singer will be joining that star-studded judging panel, helping mentor up-and-coming singers of this generation.

“Welcome to team Tones,” the singer can be heard saying in the 2026 season teaser, before cheekily adding that it was the “best team” to join.

Who is on The Voice Australia 2026?

Alongside the addition of Tones and I to The Voice judging roster, the network also confirmed that Spice Girls icon Melanie C, American singer Richard Marx, Ireland’s Ronan Keating and Australia’s finest, Kate Miller-Heidke, would be returning to coach up contestants.

“I grew up watching The Voice, as any aspiring singer, artist, or songwriter would,” Tones said of her new gig.

“I’m so excited. I can’t believe I get my very own big red chair with my very own big red buzzer – it’s very showbiz of me!”

Tones and I being a judge — or a coach, as The Voice lingo goes — makes so much sense. To give you a quick career recap, the singer (whose real name is Toni Watson) launched into stardom back in 2019 with her catchy tune, “Dance Monkey”.

The track broke a bunch of records, both in streaming and on the charts, and nabbed her multiple ARIA Awards. It also became the most Shazamed song of all time, with “Dance Monkey” copping more than 36.6 million Shazams since its release back in 2019.

What is ‘the biggest shake-up’ on The Voice history?

As mentioned in the teaser, Channel Seven has tipped this season to feature “the biggest shake-up in The Voice history”. While that “shake-up” has remained secret, fans have already speculated that Tones will be a “secret coach” this season, forming a group of singers from the rejected pool of contestants.

One person also pointed out that with the addition of Tones, there will be five coaches rather than the usual four.

Another also pointed out that “golden confetti” exploded on the screen after she hit her buzzer, hinting at another twist in the game.

Last year, former The Voice coach Guy Sebastian denied rumours that he left the show over a feud with fellow coach and singer Kate Miller-Heidke.

“All I’ll say is that these rumoured sources are always so weird to me, and they couldn’t be any further from the truth,” Guy told PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“I’ve never had anything but love for Kate. I met her when she first got signed, and became a fan when I heard her first unreleased demo EP. We have always been mates when we’ve bumped into each other, and musically/creatively/vocally, I think she’s a weapon.”

A premiere date for The Voice Australia has yet to be confirmed. However, if you wanna get on that Shazam boost, I guess I would definitely look at Tones as my coach.
