Why is the Queen using a walking stick?

The Queen was seen using a walking stick for the second time in public in a week during her visit to Cardiff on Thursday.

Her Majesty is in Cardiff for her first time in five years to attend the official opening of the Sixth Senedd. Read our live updates here.

She was previously pictured using a walking stick at a Westminster Abbey service on Tuesday - believed to be the first time she has used one at a major public event.

On Tuesday, the 95-year-old monarch was handed the stick after stepping from her state limousine and when walking to her seat for the event, marking the centenary of the Royal British Legion.

She used the stick again as she left and appeared to be moving freely.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment after that event but the changes are understood to be for the Queen's comfort.
