Why is Rahm Emanuel’s name still on city stickers?

Recently issued city stickers still have Rahm Emanuel’s name on them. | Sun-Times Staff

If you bought a new city vehicle sticker recently, you may have noticed it carries the name of a certain former mayor instead of Lori Lightfoot’s.

That’s because the City’s Clerk’s Office is still working through its collection of stickers with Rahm Emanuel’s name on them.

Rather than trash the old supply to start selling reprinted stickers at the end of Emanuel’s tenure, the City Clerk’s Office is “using up the stock they had” to avoid wasting money, spokeswoman Kate LeFurgy said.

“We want to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said LeFurgy.

LeFurgy said the last batch of stickers with Emanuel’s name on them were ordered on Feb. 1, before the office knew who the next mayor would be, and the number of stickers ordered was based off of how many were historically purchased in that timeframe.

The new batch of stickers with Lightfoot’s name were ordered on May 8.

With 350 locations selling city stickers, LeFurgy said some are still working through the old batch, but that others have moved on to the updated stickers.
